Fertility ‘roadmap’ for women- Predicting the onset of menopause
A new test could tell women how many years they are from menopause, offering them a “roadmap” to their reproductive life.
Scientists in the U.S. for the first time believe they have developed a blueprint to accurately predict when a woman’s reproductive cycle is likely to end by testing hormone levels in blood.
But Australian experts yesterday said the test gave “false hope”. They said there is no conclusive way of measuring when a women would begin menopause.
The University of Michigan team studied changes in hormones FSH and inhibin B, which stimulate eggs, in more than 600 women over 14 years.
That found hormones dropped significantly five years before menopause.
This information is interesting. I would like to know more about the “false hope” comment. Do the Australian doctors see the onset of menopause without the changes in the level of the studied hormones? Are they concerned about the validity of a five year window? I am sure we will continue to hear more about the future developments of this test. Would you want to know??
