Infertility Awareness Association of Canada’s “My Story” campaign
Campaign Encourages Infertile Community to Share their Story with the Ontario Government.
This article reminds me of RESOLVE (the National Infertility Association) of the Bay State’s (soon to be named RESOLVE New England’s) involvement as advocates for the implementation and protection of the Massachusetts insurance mandate that covers infertility treatment and for continued legislative and insurance reform. RESOLVE of the Bay State continues to focus on protecting the Massachusetts Infertility Insurance Mandate and lobbying for infertility/family building-related legislation.
I am not an expert but I can’t think of many things that affects 1 in 6 couples like infertility does. Raising awareness is the first step in any change process. Good for the Infertility Awareness Association of Canada (IAAC) for initiating this project in the province of Ontario.
Despite statistics that suggest 1 in 6 Ontarians faces difficulties starting a family, IAAC believes that this critical public health issue remains too often a private matter. “The My Story Campaign will force Ontario’s politicians to become better aware of the issue and the struggle of their infertile constituents,” says Bev Hanck, Executive Director of IAAC.
It is too bad that this health issue remains stigmatized and kept private. It is an issue chock full of emotions, feelings of being let down by our bodies, asking ourselves if there was something we could done to prevent it, why did we wait so long, fear, and longing. Everyone’s stories are compelling. The IAAC is hoping to collect more than 10,000 stories documenting the physical, emotional and financial impact of infertility in Ontario.
Get out your pens, paper and computers and start writing about something that you know all too much about!!
