Infertility Support and Building your Spiritual Capacity
We must make our own meaning – actively build our spiritual capacity. Lance Armstrong is a great example of this. Most of us know his story; a great cyclist, struck down with cancer, and given a 3% chance of survival. Three years after his diagnosis, he won the Tour de France, arguably one of the most challenging sporting events in the world. He won it six times more. After all that, he still considers surviving cancer as a far greater achievement – it pushed him to develop his spiritual capacity.
“The one thing the illness has convinced me of beyond all doubt-more than any experience I’ve had as an athlete-is that we are much better than we know. We have unrealized capacities that sometimes only emerge in crisis. So if there is a purpose to the suffering that is cancer, I think it must be this: it’s meant to improve us.”
Now I know that infertility is not cancer. However research has shown that women undergoing treatment for infertility have a similar level of stress as women dealing with diseases such as cancer. It occurs to me that this is something to consider in the light of facing infertility – that we have capacities within us that aren’t tapped into until we are in crisis. A life coach can help you tap these capacities and discover your strength.
If there is a purpose, it is meant to improve us. Is there any comfort in these words? You tell me.
